Our
Research

explores the lived experience of professional Creatives in the current tech landscape.

Generative AI is revolutionary and already transforming  the Creative Industries in previously unimaginable ways.

Our research documents this important  industry transition from the viewpoint of the people most impacted - the professional Creatives themselves. And especially the next generation. The New Creatives.

What is the future of human creativity? That's what we want to find out.

Our
current project

focuses on three key viewpoints. 1. Creatives professionals - especially New Creatives at the start of their career. How can you best build a career in this rapidly emerging landscape? 2. Creative organisations. What sort of creative employees and artists do you need for the future?  3. Creative educators. How do universities design courses given the whirl of change, excitement, and uncertainty now facing creative careers?

About Adaphra

Adaphra is a research, education and consultancy company focused on the impact of AI on the world of creative professionals.

We have a special interest in New Creatives - people early on in their creative careers.  And in Generative AI. What will this extraordinary new technology mean for New Creatives' professional futures?  The creative possibilities are awesome.  But there's also an important question. Will it still be possible to be a professional creative? We want to help make sure the answer is yes.

Our first project is to research and understand the real world lived experience of New Creatives. As it is happening here and now. This will help us collectively to develop ways to help New Creatives navigate the industry transition.

So if you are a New Creative hoping for a professional career; or a Creative Organisation figuring out how to attract and train new talent in the current landscape; or  an educational institution puzzling over how to prepare your creative students for the future then we'd love to talk with you.

Your perspective, your opinion and your story can help shape and support the future of human creative work.

Our name

The name Adaphra is inspired by two amazing historical figures.

Ada Lovelace created the very first machine language algorithm in 1843, and is considered to be the first computer programmer. An early computer language was named after her - ADA - and is still used today in air traffic control in Europe.

Aphra Behn is considered by many historians to be the first person to earn a professional living from writing. And like many creatives today, she had a side hustle - working as a spy in Belgium in the 1600s for the court of England’s King Charles II.

Though centuries apart, together they represent the power of technology and algorithms, and the drive to work as a creative professional. Adaphra is all about exploring the intersection of professional human creativity and the impact of the latest technology. Hence the name Adaphra.
